Elaine marie rozhon - dec. 29, 1946 to dec. 18, 2023
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Elaine Marie Rozhon. Elaine passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, in her cherished hometown of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Born on December 29, 1946, to Robert and Kathleen Schaeppi, Elaine grew up in Colton, California with her sister, Marian Murphy, and brother Jimmy Schaeppi. She graduated from Colton High School in 1964, which is where she met her husband, Bill Rozhon.
Elaine and Bill married on April 1, 1966, and relocated to Rialto, California. The happy couple welcomed their son, Robby Rozhon, in 1969 and their daughter, Shelly Keirns, in 1973. The family began to regularly vacation in Lake Havasu, growing a deep love for the small town and its beautiful lake.
In the 70s, Elaine and Bill became heavily involved in the stock car racing community, which would become a major cornerstone of their lives as they grew together in their marriage.
In 1993, Elaine became a grandmother for the first time. There was no better job for Elaine than that of being a grandma. By 1998, Elaine was a grandma to four grandkids, Shelby Horn, Jeremy Orozco, Dani Mohr, and Alex Bunnell. She lived to spoil all four grandkids, and cherished her time spent with them.
In 2005, following the retirement of her husband Bill, the two of them made the decision to pursue re-opening a long-abandoned stock car oval track in Lake Havasu. Once they received the approval of the city, they put their Rialto home on the market and moved into their Lake Havasu vacation home fulltime.
Their racetrack, Havasu 95 Speedway, started with a small and simple dream of bringing stock car racing to Lake Havasu. Elaine and Bill navigated this new world of business ownership together, with Bill taking on the promoter aspect and Elaine tackling accounting, filing, and driver registration. Working driver registration, Elaine was the first person racers, sponsors and fans would see when they entered the track for the first time. She had an unbelievable knack for remembering every racer, their family members, what they did for work, or what they had going on in their lives. She greeted everyone by name, with a smile on her face, and with a dish of candy always ready. The racetrack celebrated its 18th anniversary in 2023.
In 2014, Elaine became a great grandmother. As a great grandma, she was second to none. By 2023, she was the proud great grandma of six great grandkids, Taylor and Sadie Horn, Cooper and Walker Mohr, Nolan Bunnell, and Natalie Orozco. She loved all 10 of her grandkids more than anything, and being a grandma was her biggest pride and joy.
Elaine loved the thrill of a good shopping deal, card games, the Dodgers, and her two dogs, Marshall and Hudson.
Elaine’s legacy will continue to shine in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, love, warmth, and devotion to her family will never be forgotten. Her impact on the racing community will be remembered for years to come.
The Get It In Gear Street Stocks Elaine Rozhon 76 Memorial Race presented by Ben's Asphalt, Precision Cold Planing and Copper State Pavement took place on Feb. 3, 2024 and was won by Jim Vermillion #26.
